Watercolor Walkthrough Part 3 by Laitma Watercolor Walkthrough Part 3 by Laitma
Aaaaaand part 3, at last! Sorry it took so long, but school's kind of beating the shit out of me right now and I have to get back to work now...
But thank you all very much for your wonderful feedback on this walkthrough of mine! I'm glad that I could help, and I hope that this reads easily/sensibly. Feel free to ask me questions or throw me suggestions, because really, I'm just as new to this as any of you. D:

Thank you all! :heart:

Ahhhhhhh I'm just really, super-glad to hear that this did help you, I felt the same as I was really frustrated with other tutorials... thank you!! :)
I was actually thinking of doing some more tips/tutorials with regard to watercolors, or a comparison of watercolor paper types... maybe you'd be interested in that!

Tips on watercolor paper sound good. Also, more tips about watercolors would be great too. I'm such a newbie in this stuff and everything that could explain something about this medium would be very welcome :'3

I'm still learning, Mrs. Art-teacher had us choose mediums we weren't sure of to get more practice. For me? Color. In General. XD

It's a very well done and well written step-by-step process. I enjoyed looking through it. x3 :heart: I wish I did more watercolors (but I'm oh so lazy) but looking at this makes me want to get back into it again... eventually. ;v;

As for suggestions, you're technique is really impressive and requires so much patience that it looks perfect... maybe too perfect? This is just me but I think watercolors look nice when they're a bit flowy and a tad bit messy. To incorporate the splotches and weird edges into the picture makes mistakes look nifty? Ack, bad at explaining, some samples (not mine ;v; ) :pointr: [link] , [link] , [link]

I suggest using big brushes without the masking fluid. (Although masking fluid is fun I have to admit. xD ) It's the complete opposite of your style but just try it, and if it doesn't work for you, that's a-okay. I just feel like you're restricting yourself to tedium and teeny brushes when watercolors could do so much more.

Long and rambly if I sound like a biotch feel free to slap me. D: And in a totally unrelated note, you have nice nails, aASDKDFGDLFGSHllkhGFF;;; *_* I never understand how long nails can stay clean and pretty.

Ohman, thanks so much, hun. That really means a lot to me, and it's not irritating at all!
I knoooooow, I knooooow, there's the messier look and the wet-on-wet painting, but I think I'm too.... impatient for it? If that makes ANY sense at all? xD I have a hard time seeing the water slowly blend two colors for me, and the lack of control gets to me.... I'll have to keep working at it, though. I hope to be able to incorporate background washes into my pictures, so maybe I'll start there? xD
I'll try! Thank you!

(And ahahaha, I'm so OCD about keeping nails clean...)

Haha, really? I'd think it'd be faster. xD Although I guess the killer part would be waiting for those huge washes to dry before coming back in to work at it again. But that's when a hair-dryer comes in handy... although that could also blow watercolor puddles away in various directions. But since you tend to avoid adding too much water, I don't think it'll be too much of a problem???

Background washes sounds like a good place to start. :)

D: Amazing! This is pretty much what we did in my watercolor class earlier this year.

Watercolors definitely take a loooot more patience and being careful, very different from acrylic and oils. Watercolor right after oils was probably not the best idea :XD: Oils you can keep working on, you need it to be wet, and you build it and build it ... Acrylic is a nice balance between the two, you can paint over mistakes like oil, but it dries faster, like watercolor.

... I need to start an oil painting >.<

Yaaay, the final part! <3 I'm gonna go through with watercoloring! One day! XD
Also, what color do you suggest if you don't want the shading in the skin to look so... purpley? IDK, it just bugs me for some reason. :|
But thank you for the part about masking fluid! <33 I used to love these tutorials on the now defunct Manga Revolution, but she never really explained masking fluid. All of my questions are answered!

Hahaha, hmmmm, I haven't figured out skin very well... otherwise it'd just be concentrating the brown/red skin tone? D: I just found that it didn't look very nice and that purple looked much more appealing to me, so I've been using more of it. xD
I always found that a bunch of tutorials all do the whole "and now i add shadows, and now I add highlights" tack, which I always found to be..... completely, utterly useless. 8|;;

Well, I've noticed most of the people you color are very tan, and I don't think you would use purple for paler people. XD

They were more like "how I did this picture" things. Also, she also had some comparing brands and mediums. I kind of miss them. o3o

Gyahahaha, I only really draw tan people because I get carried away in shading and do a poor job of it. I hate skin. ;v;

XD Well, you just need to keep at it and use a LOT of self-restraint. I used to hate coloring hair, but forcing myself to color it has helped.
